New Blood Awards

For this project we will be taking part in the 2025 New Blood Awards. This gives a chance to new designers and University students to take part to be able to win a D&AD Pencil Award. They have partnered with multiple well known brands and have set separate briefs for us to choose from and complete. Our outcomes will then be submitted once this project is over.

I will be in a team with Adam so we started a Figjam board to discuss our ideas and develop some new ones to choose a brief to take further.
After multiple ideas for four of the briefs and looking at previous D&AD and New Blood Award winners, we chose to go with giffgaff. We then made another board focused on giffgaffs brand and researching Guerrilla Marketing, as well as a mind-map together.

This is Giffgaffs Responsible Marketing Manifesto and we often look back as we develop ideas.

This is our next board to discuss specific ideas and moodboard.

Our current idea centers around optimism and community. We will make a bright yellow mascot of a sun, accompanied by a balloon which will appear in the public interacting with eachother, for example the sun trying to catch the balloon. There will then be a way to show them in AR, followed by a hot air balloon as part of the guerilla marketing.

This board is for further development of our idea - marketing names and AR possibilities.
Using Illustrator Adam made these two mascots based on our campaign idea.

Then I used an image online, photoshops AI tool and others to make the sun mascot into a hot air balloon.

After a discussion with our tutors, me and Adam decided to step back on our mascot idea as we agreed it is not unique or stands out enough to be submitted for the new blood awards. We went back to mind mapping and came up with different concepts which further push the idea of unbridled optimism and answers the brief.

After coming up with a few concepts, we settled with - a bus branding the giffgaff colours would travel all over the uk to promote the companies goal of unbridled optimism. Inside the bus there will be a photobooth with a filter to alter the persons appearance. People who donate will win prizes from giffgaff, things such as store discounts or free items.

The Photobooth
Using the website rawpixel, I found this mockup which was perfect to make our photobooth. The main colour of this campaign is pink so I carried on the theme from the bus.
