This project asks you to develop an original magazine concept that fills a clear gap in the current market. Rather than redesigning an existing publication, you will identify an underused topic, overlooked audience, or emerging cultural shift that is not being fully addressed by mainstream media. You will create a distinctive magazine brand, including a cover and a selected number of interior pages, responding to a contemporary theme that reflects current cultural, social, or aesthetic changes. Your concept should demonstrate a strong understanding of who the publication is for, why it is needed, and how it differentiates itself from existing titles.
Target Audience Define a specific readership audience (e.g. Gen Z, high-fashion consumers, or creative professionals) and justify how your design decisions respond to this audience.
Develop a clear creative concept that informs all design decisions
Maintain recognisable branding while introducing a fresh visual direction

House & Garden
House & Garden has one of the longest histories of any current British magazine. It launched in 1947, when the country was still struggling with the effects of the Second World War. What was initially called The Vogue House & Garden Book was designed to delight the eye and distract the mind. It was also designed to be a home of architecture and design, as the UK embarked on the biggest building programme of its history, with millions of much-needed homes being planned and built up and down the country.

Published by Condé Nast, it offers curated, tested recipes, entertaining, wine, and travel content. It has a large digital presence, including a popular YouTube channel and website.
Magazine Structures
After getting the December 2025 issue of Vogue, I picked out some of my favourite pages and underline the grid structure of the magazine. This was to help me come up with my own grid system and image placement.
For the other magazine I looked at, I chose this Adidas skate magazine from January 2026 given to me by my boyfriend. The grid structure is completely different compared to Vogue with hand drawn type and text overlaying onto of cropped images. This will be used as inspiration for my magazine as it is examples of different grids to follow which are not standard grids.

Magazine Brand
The underused topic for my magazine I have chosen is colours, this is because most fashion magazines focus on the clothes themselves and how they look rather than what they could mean. I will research into their background or the reason certain colours are paired together through either articles I find or images I find. For the name of the magazine brand I have chosen to go with CHROMA. This is because the word chroma represents all colours which is what this magazine wants to represent.

Titles
For the title of each mood I adjusted the main font I chose for CHROMA to also influence their identity on the page.
